Rochester R&B Talent on the Rise

ROCHESTER — The Umbrella Faculty was founded in the summer of 2010 by childhood friends, Jae Stewart and Sunih Reed, both of Rochester, NY.  Their vision was to showcase Upstate New York artists to the larger music community.  Starting with the raw talent of Sunih Reed, that vision began to materialize.  The company recruited talent and currently represents artists Fats Domino, Trent Monroe, Donnell Thomas, Eloh, Punch and Sunih Reed.  With artists representing R&B, Hip-Hop and Neo Soul, Umbrella Faculty has established itself as a major force in music.

Jae handles many of the business aspects of the company, managing the artists, booking shows and performances as well as work on the company's movie, "I'm Loyalty."  He is excited to have many projects underway and to be working with such a dedicated team.  "We're working on the movie, mixtapes, touring and increasing notoriety," says Stewart.  "The guys work really hard, everyday, as much as possible."

Artist and co-founder, Sunih Reed, has made his presence known and has opened for major artists such as, New Edition, Tank and Ralph Trasvent.  On April 6, he will travel to Hampton, Virginia to open for major hip-hop artist, Maino.  Sunih began singing in church as a child, and now captures the hearts of women with his smooth, tenor vocals and sultry lyrics.  Fans can expect his next album release in summer 2012.

Artist Donnell Thomas has also had much success in his Neo Rokk Movement, recently releasing his music video, "Ryde Muzik," on Time Warner Cable channel 15.  As an injured US Army veteran, Donnell is focused on his career in music and grateful for the opportunity to do so. His music sends positive, conscious and inspiring messages.  "It's music your kids can enjoy, too.  Even my pastor has my mixtape," he says.

"The music is genuine," says Stewart. "We are accepting other dedicated and talented individuals to join us as solo artists or features. We do it for the people."
